What's next for the investigation into the "NCBR scandal"? New information has emerged

NCBR is a government executive agency subordinate to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Its task is to distribute EU funds for innovative projects. Huge amounts of money flow through the center every year - over the 17 years of its existence, the agency has transferred PLN 80 billion to scientists and entrepreneurs .
Fast track to a case at the prosecutor's officeThe agency does this through competitions. One of them was "Fast Track - Digital Innovations". In 2022, grants were awarded for a total amount of PLN 801 million. In February 2023, however, the competition was taken up by the CBA and the prosecutor's office.
Thanks to Radio Zet, it came to light that subsidies in one of the competitions were supposed to have been given to suspicious companies, journalists pointed to their connections with the Republican Party, whose politicians supervised the agency. Preparatory proceedings in this case are still ongoing in the prosecutor's office.
- Prosecutors have currently brought charges against 45 people in the course of the proceedings, including public officials, entrepreneurs, and people acting as "front men" in newly established companies - informs WNP prosecutor Jacek Mularzuk from the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw. 20 of them have been charged in the last six months alone.
- Prosecutors are collecting and continuously analysing evidence in the form of witness statements and extensive documentation, and are also gradually expanding and announcing charges against suspects - adds prosecutor Mularzuk.
Hanna S. charged with participation in an organized criminal groupDuring the proceedings, ten people were placed under temporary arrest. Currently, no suspects are detained in connection with the NCBR scandal. "Freedom preventive measures" (e.g. property bail) are being applied to 26 people.
Among those who were temporarily arrested is Hanna S., former deputy director of NCBR (2022–2023). Previously, Hanna S. was the director of the operational department in the capital funds department of NCBR and the director of the office of advanced research and investment programs. Hanna S. was charged with participation in an organized criminal group, as well as accepting personal and property benefits in connection with performing public functions and so-called money laundering.
She was released from pretrial detention on December 20, 2024. - Various types of preventive measures are currently being applied against Hanna S., including monetary ones - informs WNP prosecutor Mularzuk.
The director of the project control department has the status of a witnessIn the case, Maciej Grzegorzewski, director of the NCBR project control department, has witness status. Grzegorzewski is currently being sought by the Otwock police - his family reported him missing.
According to the officers, the man left his home in Józefów near Warsaw on June 22 at around 4:50 a.m. He went in an unknown direction. As informed by Deputy Inspector Patryk Domarecki, press officer of the District Police Commander in Otwock, he has not returned home to this day nor has he contacted his loved ones.
Dogs and drones were used in the search for Grzegorzewski, and his car was found near the Vistula River in the green areas of Józefów.
